Flavored Pizza Dough

Lots of people want flavored pizza dough. I am always intrigued when I get asked about pizza dough flavor or how to boost the flavor of pizza dough.

In many ways I am a traditionalist, keeping things simple and original instead of adding lots of unnecessary stuff.

Why add lots of stuff to the dough to try and change its flavor?

I asked this question myself and I think the answer is one of several reasons. First, if you have ever eaten a really bad, doughy, yeasty, tasting pizza dough you would naturally want to change the flavor to something more palatable.

Second, I think there are times when adding flavor to pizza crust can actually help improve the overall taste and balance of a pizza. For example, adding a sprinkling of garlic powder to pizza crust can enhance its flavor and provide a nice contrast for a Shrimp Pizza for instance.
