Easy Homemade Pizza

Herb Pizza Dough


This herb pizza dough makes a delicious, savory dough perfect for a variety of different pizza toppings. Try your favorite combinations.

We use fresh herbs, but dry herbs will work also. Use about 1/2 the amount.

Try your favorite herbs for fresh, new, flavorful pizza crusts. Substitute your families favorite herbs, or use the fresh herbs growing in your garden. Change the combination of herbs to match your pizza toppings.

Here is a simple trick...you can purchase pre-made Italian Seasonings in your favorite grocery store. These make a fine, easy substitute.

The following herb pizza dough recipe will make enough dough for one (1) approximately 14 inch (large) diameter pizza. You can scale this recipe to any quantity you like and that will fit your equipment. For example, if you want to make 2 large pizzas simply double all of the ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tbs Olive Oil
  • 2/3 Cup Lukewarm Water
  • 1/4 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Active Dry Yeast
  • 1 Tbs Garlic Cloves, fresh, chopped
  • 1 Tbs Oregano, fresh, chopped
  • 1 Tbs Parsley, fresh, chopped
  • 1 Tbs Basil, fresh, chopped
  • 1 Tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 Tsp Black Pepper, or to taste
  • 2 Cups Bread Flour

Directions:

  • Dissolve 1 package of yeast in ½ cup plus 2 Tbs of lukewarm water.
  • See Activating Yeast for complete instructions
  • Place flour in bowl of electric mixer
  • Add dissolved yeast, oil, water, garlic, oregano, parsley, basil, onion powder, salt and pepper
  • Using dough hook, mix well at medium-low speed until all ingredients are incorporated
  • Increase speed to high and mix dough for 4 to 5 minutes
  • Dust or oil dough ball and place in a large bowl, and cover with plastic wrap
  • Let rise in a warm, draft free place for 1 to 3 hours.

A bread flour is higher in gluten and will give this crust a nice, crisp texture.
