Quality Pizza CuttersPizza cutters are a very useful tools. I have used them for a variety of purposes...other than slicing pizza, including; cutting the crust off of my daughters peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and cutting quesadillas. They are also great as a pastry wheel or dough cutter. You will find a number of good products below, most of them from Katom Restaurant Supply which has been in business for more than 23 years. If you are looking to purchase a quality pizza cutter we hope you do it from us, we make a couple buck (well closer to a buck) on these items we helps us maintain the website...every little bit helps. They come in a variety of shapes, styles and sizes...also in a wide range of prices. Materials The handle is usually made from either wood, plastic, or metal. I like the look and feel of the wood handles, however, it is very difficult to find a quality made cutter with a wood handle. Most of these tend to be poorly engineered, cheaply manufacturered, and can be unsafe to use. Metal handled cutters can be a good choice. There are some very sleek styles being made, if that fits your interests, and most of these appear to be well manufactured. I do not particularly like the feel of metal in my hand...so a metal handled pizza cutter is not my first choice, but they may be a good choice for you. Below is a very nice Dexter Russell model that will last forever with proper care. Dexter Russell S3A Dexter-Russell 2-3/4 in Pizza Cutter, Aluminum Handle Plastic handles are popular choices these days. Plastic cutters come in a wide variety of colors and styles, so there is bound to be a model that fits your needs. The other element that is nice about the plastic handled cutters, is that the plastic lends itself to shapes and sizes that neither wood nor metal does. This results in shapes that fit your hand much better. Dexter Russell 18023 Sani-Safe 4 in Pizza Cutter, White Handle For anyone that cooks alot, you know how a poorly designed knife can create fatigue and soreness. Pizza cutters can cause similar aches and pains. I have several plastic handled cutters that fit perfectly in my hand, and are a pleasure to use. Dexter Russell P177A-5 Sani-Safe 5 in Pizza Cutter, Polypropylene HandleSizes I prefer a cutter in the 4" to 5" inch range. My current cutter is 4 1/2" and this is a good size for many tasks. Sizes range from 1" to 9", but common sizes for home use are 4" to 6". Prices Prices vary widely, depending on the materials, quality of construction, and the source of your purchase. You can find inexpensive wooden handled cutters for less than $5.00, but prices rise quickly for some of the higher end models. You can expect to pay between $15.00 to $25.00 for a higher plastic or metal model and kithchen stores. There are a number of higher end types of pizza wheels available. These are well built, high quality cutters often used by commercial kitchens. They are available at gourmet or restaurant supply shops...as well as available online. Gadgets I consider pizza cutters part of the "gadget" category. Different shapes, colors, and designs are available. Single blades,
twin blades, short handles, long handles...the list goes on and on. I have owned or tried many of them, and while I
am a self-professed gadget junkie...I would not recommend spending more than $5.00 or $10.00 for your cutter.
Whatever model you decide is best for you, a pizza wheel is part of the Basic Equipment needed to make homemade pizza easy.
Pizza Cutter or Weapon?20" Rocker Cutter - This is more of a weapon than kitchen equipment! Often used by pizza restaurants this is large enough to cut a 20 inch diameter pizza. This is more cutter than we need for our house. American Metalcraft PKR20 Pizza Cutter, 20 in x 4-3/4 in High Blade, 21-1/2 in OAL, Full Rocker, StainlessFinding storage for something this size would be difficult, but more importantly, I do not consider this safe to have around young children...which is the case in our house. If we did not have kids and my wife purchased this as a gift...well that would be a different story. Then I might consider it a product I could not live without!
