Pizza Equipment for the HomeThis article discusses general information about pizza equipment for the home. Have you ever tried ordering pizza pie from the nearest pizza joint, while salivating with giddy anticipation, only to find out later that the crust has lost its bite, the cheese has lost its creaminess, and all that’s left is a soggy piece of trash that’s not even worthy of the name ‘Pizza’? Indeed, we all have those moments when we just want to storm to the pizza joint and punch whoever prepared that lousy excuse for a pizza. But really, often times, it’s not their fault. Pizza is heavenly if it is eaten minutes after baking. It can’t really withstand the long drive from the pizza joint to your house and still retain its cheesy goodness. No, if you want quality pizza, then you’re better off just making your own. And the first thing that you must do is to turn your own house into a personal mini-pizza joint. And to do that, you need some pizza equipment. Mixer If you’re adamant about really making your own pizza, then you can’t forgo a mixer. The mixer will be used to make your dough. Careful though, since some variations of dough, particularly those hard and thick ones, might just cause damage to the mixer because they’ll be too tough to mix through a machine. Of course, you can always buy ready-made dough from the grocery store if you’re not too keen on making your own dough. Although making your own pizza dough is time-consuming, it can be really well worth your while to make pizza crust at home rather than buy the pre-packaged ones. Rolling Pin For that perfect pizza experience, use a rolling pin to render the pizza dough flat after kneading. There are also specialized pizza rollers in the market, if you’re interested. But, really, a traditional rolling pin will do. Pizza Peel Pizza peels are either made of wood or made of metal. The trend today is to use metal pizza peels, specifically those made from aluminum, because it’s slippery and the pizza will slide right off it when you set the pizza into the oven or on to your serving plate. Pizza Stone You don’t just place the pizza inside the oven. First, you have to place a pizza stone inside the oven, heat the stone for an hour or so then place your ready-to-bake pizza on top of it. The pizza tone will distribute heat from the oven fire evenly so that you can be assured of a uniformly baked pizza crust. Pizza stones, also called hearth stones, retain lots of heat, so baking pizza also takes a shorter amount of time. Pizza stones come in several sizes; buy the one that you’re sure will fit into your oven. Also, base it on the general size of the pizzas that you will be making. You can usually find packages that sell the pizza stone and peel together. Pizza Cutter Of course, you can’t make real pizza if you don’t slice it in the traditional pizza pie way. And to get the perfect feel of ‘pizza’, you need a pizza cutter. A pizza cutter is essentially a circular serrated, razor blade fixed onto a handle. It doesn’t cost too much and using it is way more effective than using a knife. Wire Rack Do you know why some pizzas are overly soggy? That’s because they’re not placed over a wire rack for two minutes before they’re served. Wire racks help are necessary for draining pizza of excess moisture; while on the pizza rack, the cheese is also allowed to set for a firmer and more solid pizza. Other Pizza Equipment If you have lots of extra money, you may also consider buying a pizza server, which is a triangular tool used to serve
pizza slices. And of course, you may also buy your own chef hat – just for the fun of it. That is enough pizza equipment to get you started!
