Choosing the right pizza pansHere is a quick guide to choosing pizza pans. One very important thing that you have to remember about pizza baking pans is that they are not necessary. Sure, you can always go for the typical round pizza pan to get that authentic pizza feel but, really, if you're trying to save some dough - decidedly not the type of dough you cook - it might be better for you to just use your regular old baking pans because they will work just as well. You can even deviate from the normal round pizza and use your star-shaped cake baking pan to make a star-shaped pizza. One other alternative, especially when making thin crust pizza, is to put the pizza directly on the pizza or hearth stone. It all depends upon you and your creativity and the amount of money that you have in your pocket. But if you insist on buying an authentic pizza baking pan, then go ahead. All that's left for you to decide now is which of the pizza baking pans in the market is best for making pizza. The Material Pizza baking pans come in many different materials. The most common pizza pan materials are glass and metal. The advantage of metal pans is that they heat up quicker than glass pans. This means that if you use a metal pizza pan, you will need a shorter baking time so you won't have to wait long before you can sink your teeth into that gooey pizza goodness. But then again, the disadvantage of glass baking pans - the fact that they take longer to get hot and are thus able to retain heat longer than metal pans - is what makes it better for some people. They help make pizza crust that's perfectly crispy and perfectly brown. Just make sure that the glass pan you buy is oven-safe, of course. Also, for a few extra dollars, you can buy a pizza baking pan that's made of stuff that prevents the pizza from sticking to the pan. These non-stick pans are rather popular in the market; they’re almost a fad. Then again, if you want to save some money, just make sure that your pans are properly greased before you use them. The Size It's no secret that those pizza joints have ovens that are a lot larger than the average oven. It's the reason why they can make those super-family size pizzas with no problem. We, on the other hand, have regular sized ovens for regular sized pizza pies. So, when choosing our pizza baking pan, we must make sure that these pans will actually fit into our ovens. You really shouldn’t worry since most ovens can accommodate the most common sizes of pans. Single type pizza is generally 6 to 9 inches in diameter. Mediums-size pizzas are 10 to 14 inches in diameter. A 12 inch pizza pan works great. And the large-size pizzas are around 15 to 18 inches in diameter (18-inch pizzas are typical of the New York Style pizza). Of course, if you're particularly hungry, it wouldn't hurt to add a few inches to the pizza's diameter. So, if you're going to choose a pizza baking pan, choose one that's at least 15 inches in diameter so that you can make whatever you want, depending on the occasion. But again, remember that a pizza baking pan is not necessary and that a regular old baking pan will work just as well.
