How to Make Sourdough Pizza

Have you ever tasted a sourdough pizza crust, one of those pizza crust recipes that are not only thin but very chewy as well? If your answer to that is yes and you want to taste it again, then here is an easy pizza crust recipe that you can follow. But you have to know that to make the perfect crust you have to accept the trial and error process as a matter of course as well as to follow precise measurements of the pizza ingredients. You will also need to record the step-by-step process as well as your measurements and the results to get that perfect pizza base. This is one of the secrets of the pizza doughmakers: a careful measuring of the ingredients and recording of the results so that the crust will always be perfect every time.

Making Your Sourdough Starter

Before you make pizza crust, you should first have a sourdough starter. For this, you will need at least two cups of water. For the dry ingredients, you will need sugar (three tablespoons), all purpose flour (two cups), and dry yeast (one and a half teaspoons).

In a bowl, mix and stir all the ingredients together until the mixture becomes smooth. Once smooth, leave it at room temperature. The bowl should be covered with a clean cloth to get the wild yeasts growing. It is recommended that you stir it at least twice a day until you see the formation of bubbles on its surface. This means that yeast is growing and fermentation is occurring as it should. Finally, you can place the starter on the jar and store the same in your refrigerator.

The Sourdough Pizza Making Process

For this recipe, you will need one and one-fourth cups of warm water, two tablespoons of olive oil, and a cup of your sourdough starter, which should already be in room temperature. For the dry ingredients, prepare active dry yeast (two teaspoons), sugar (one teaspoon), pizza flour or bread flour (three to three and a half cups), and finally salt (one teaspoon).

In making pizza dough, put the yeast into the warm water then add in the sugar. Stir it well and leave it until you see foam form. Next, combine the oil, salt, flour (one half cup only), and the sourdough starter that you have made. Mix them together and add in the rest of the flour gradually, kneading them until you have pizza dough with the right consistency – extensible or elastic without being soggy or brittle.

Baking Your Sourdough Pizza Crust

Brush oil on your baking pans and place the dough in the pizza pans; allow about an hour or more to let the dough rise. After the rising period, place the dough in the oven. Your oven, preferably a brick oven, should have been preheated at about 400 degrees. Pre-bake your easy pizza crust for about 10 minutes. Then put in your pizza toppings and pizza sauce then bake your pizza for another half hour at 425 degrees.

Types of Pizza for Your Sourdough Pizza Crust

You can do a lot with your quick pizza dough recipe. For starters, it will be perfect for any kind of vegetable pizza recipe. It will definitely complement the taste of your favorite veggies. It will also be perfect for your pizza casserole as it will lend its flavor to the meat and your homemade pizza sauce. For a more tasty pizza, you can use the sourdough for your cheese pizza. Just add some pizza spices aside from the cheese, and you and your loved one will definitely enjoy every slice.
